30th July

RSPB Middleton (Staffs) - This morning Greenshank, 3 Black-Tailed Godwits, Dunlin, Common Sandpiper, 5 Little Ringed Plover, 5 Avocet & 2 Snipe [West Scrape], Green Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper [East Scrape], 4 Egyptian Geese [Jubilee Wetlands], 2 Yellow Wagtail [North Pit] (R Strong). Tonight the Avocets had cleared West Scrape with the majority of the above moving to Canal Scrape. The Dunlin was with a Ringed Plover. The Greenshank roosted on East Scrape and 3 Green Sandpiper came in from the South to roost on North Pit.

This afternoon 4 Common Sandpiper, Ringed Plover, 30 House Martin, 4 Egyptian Geese, 5 Snipe and the 3 Juvenile Avocet can now all fly (S Atkinson).

Tonight Black-Tailed Godwit, 2 Green Sandpiper, Dunlin, 5 Snipe, 3 Little Ringed Plover, Ringed Plover, 2 + 2 Egyptian Geese, Common Sandpiper & Shoveler still has full brood of 9.

RSPB Middleton (Staffs) - 4 Black-Tailed Godwit, Snipe, 3+ Little Ringed Plover [West Scrape], 2 Dunlin, 2 + 2 Egyptian Geese, Redshank [Jubilee Wetlands], 2 + 3 Avocet, 2 LRP & Yellow Wagtail [East Scrape] (R Strong). Tonight Greenshank appeared on West Scrape late on and Black-Tailed Godwits had increased to 5 and Snipe to 8. Also 7 Little Ringed Plover and singles of Ringed Plover, Green Sandpiper and Dunlin.

This evening - 4 Black-Tailed Godwits still [Jubilee North], 8 Little Ringed Plover, 7 Snipe and the 3 Avocet chicks are not far off flying.

This afternoon Ruff still, Peregrine Falcon and 3 Green Sandpiper North Pit plus 1 on Jubilee (T Perrins).

Ladywalk NR (WMBC members only) continues to pull in the birds this month - Ruff (2nd), 11 Black-Tailed Godwits (3rd), 5 Green Sandpiper (5th) and Greenshank today.

KWP South - Yellow-legged Gull (11th calendar year) is now back for its 10th winter on Bodymoor Heath Water and has returned a full week earlier than usual. Also in the area 2 Oystercatcher, Redshank, Green Sandpiper and 5 Common Tern (A Dean).

1st July

RSPB Middleton (Staffs) - 5 Black-Tailed Godwits circled Jubilee Wetlands for 10 mins at 8 pm, touched down briefly before heading out North. Also 4 Ringed Plover, 2 + 3 Avocet, 2 + 2 Egyptian Geese and Green Sandpiper.
